About the Coffee

Alianza Café is a cooperative based in Buesaco, a municipality in the Nariño Department (Province). Working together, the group has become a coffee producing powerhouse. They have blossomed from an initial 100 founding members in 2017, to 1,000 members today. Their farms are spread throughout the region at dizzying altitudes ranging from 1,900 to 2,300 meters above sea level. 

Nariño is a small province on the corner of Colombia that borders Ecuador and the Pacific Ocean. The region sits just above the equator, and some of the highest-grown coffee in the world is found here. The towering altitude, framed by warm days and cool nights, is the perfect environment for slow coffee maturation and concentrated sugar development in coffee cherries.

Green coffee from Nariño tastes like a smooth cup with warm, nutty flavors. This organic coffee from Alianza Café is medium-bodied and full of roasted almond and cane sugar notes, with hints of orange. 

Colombia boasts an extraordinary array of microclimates that all lend themselves to an incredible variety of high-quality coffees. The country traditionally produces washed green coffee, with individual farms conducting their own primary processes of pulping and drying coffee cherries at the farm level.

This is a great example of cooperative coffee farming producing a fantastic quality of coffee. The very high altitude growing makes for a lovely taste when roasted and brewed due to the slow maturation allowing the sugars and flavors to really develop well. The combination of washed and sundried process allows the Colombia coffee to offer a balanced cup with lots of fruits and roasted nut essence and finishes with almost the taste of a floral orange.
